Rethinking Lesson Design with App Flows
Teachers find integrating technology into their lessons a little overwhelming. How does one keep track of all the great tools they want to use, but also make sure they are meeting their learning objectives? An App Flow is a customizable framework that helps redefine the traditional lesson plan or unit to integrate digital tools with pedagogical insight. App Flows provide scaffolding, helping one think with purpose about where, why, and how they are integrating technology. Participants will learn how to discover and evaluate apps, websites, and games for learning, and how they can redefine their lessons by integrating these quality tools into App Flows. Participants will also see how App Flow intersects with the SAMR model, helping them evaluate how technology affects student tasks, and encouraging them to design tasks that target higher-order thinking skills. In a hands-on activity, participants will start with their favorite lesson plan and “tech it up” as an App Flow, or use the framework to design new tech-rich learning experiences for students. Participants will discover tool and activity ideas that help them “tech up” their lesson design. Participants will see how the App Flow framework can help them design tech-rich lessons in practical and authentic ways.
