The Islands of Enlightenment Projects allow students in Grades 6-12 to explore 3 main themes:
1. The Understanding the Holocaust Project which gives students a mind's eye look into the tragic history of the Holocaust. Students are immersed into the digitally created streets of Amsterdam 1944. Here students explore 10 Common Core based assignments correlating with the Classic Book, The Diary of a Young Girl: Anne Frank. Students develop skills allowing them to be creators of content rich presentations. Presented by Jill Pallante 2. The Heir of the King Project is designed to help students learn about medieval rules and structures by role playing in a quest based system. Students learn medieval history as well as problem solving and collaboration to help them solve the mystery of the heir of the king. Presented by Mary Howard
3. The Virtual Design Project incorporates the principles of architecture and building that are integral to Frank Lloyd Wright's Darwin Martin House. Students involved in this project are given a Real Life tour of the Darwin Martin House by museum Education Director Gina Neureuther. Then students then explore history, architecture, and artistry to build their own virtual build that other's may explore and interact with. Presented by Gina Neureuther Within each of these projects there are Common Core aligned lessons touching on almost every content area. This program is provided free through the NYSED Technology and Learning Grant.
