Lunch and Closing Keynote Address -Unleashing Student Superpowers: How Do We Stimulate Inquiry?

The best learning involves problem solving AND problem finding. As educators, we must engage our learners in the deep thinking that arises from considering questions that have no clear answer. In this session, we’ll examine the role of inquiry in the classroom, analyze specific classroom examples, and determine the role of technology in learning. Data from over 10 million students will drive this interactive conversation.

Kristen Swanson is a teacher, leader, and learner. She has taught at the elementary level, served as a regional consultant for Response to Intervention, worked as an educational technology director for a public school district in Pennsylvania, and developed curriculum alongside Dr. Grant Wiggins. She holds a B.A. degree from DeSales University, two M.A. degrees from Wilkes University, and an Ed.D. degree from Widener University. Kristen is also currently an adjunct professor for DeSales University in their instructional technology M.Ed program and a lead researcher at BrightBytes.

Kristen is passionate about meaningful professional learning for educators. She is an original founder of the Edcamp movement. She has shared her ideas and expertise at the ASCD conference, TEDxPhiladelphiaEd,

TEDxNYED, and Educon.

Kristen is a prolific author and blogger. She wrote Professional Learning in the Digital Age, Unleashing Student Superpowers, and Teaching the Common Core Speaking and Listening Standards. Her research has also been published in academic journals, including Literacy Learning: The Middle Years and The Journal of Reading, Writing, and Literacy. Kristen is also rated as one of the top 100 education bloggers by Teach 100.
