Social Studies Meets The Common Core

Responding to local needs, OHM BOCES began curriculum development in secondary level Social Studies, placing resources on a learning management system for blended learning. Local teachers developed curriculum for Global History and Geography grades 9 and 10, US History, and Social Studies 7. As the Common Core was adopted by New York State, these curriculum groups have adapted the curriculum to meet the Common Core standards. They also have used the Global Studies Curriculum for credit recovery, to provide a pathway for students who may have failed the course but for whom repeating the course is not a viable option. This presentation will show the content of the courses, how they are disseminated and implemented, and how they can be employed to supplement classroom instruction for credit recovery, or as blended or online courses.
